Course

Homework & Quizzes

  • Assignments due Tuesdays and Thursdays (in 471 bin across from N373 ESC).
  • Late homework is treated as a resubmission unless the grader can be convinced of a valid excuse.
    (Please don't abuse the grader.)
  • Appeals: For homework or quizzes, try first to resolve with grader by resubmitting with note or by email;
    for exams or other concerns, resolve with instructor.
  • Quizzes cannot be made up, but your worst three quiz scores will automatically be changed to maximum.

Resubmitting Homework

  • Each assignment will be graded and returned before the next assignment is due.
  • An assignment can be resubmited within one week of the original deadline to restore 50% of points missed.
  • Resubmissions must be completely finished (all problems) and completely accurate.
    In other words, the re-grading is all or nothing.
  • Use a different color pen or pencil (not red) when correcting an assignment that was previously given partial credit.
  • Write 'Resubmission' at the top of the assignment, and place it in the 're-grade' slot.

In-Class Presentations

  • Each student is required to give two entertaining presentations (limit 5 minutes) on a historical person who influenced the field of optics. Presentations should use PowerPoint and include a list of supporting references.
  • On 'Review' days, students are expected to participate on a team in presenting (limit 4 minutes) a previously prepared solution to a review problem.
