How should one speak with Mormons about their faith?
After discussing things with one particular person on the newsgroup soc.religion.mormon, I decided to compose a short list of proper etiquette for the way to discuss matters of faith with Mormons. That individual had a few nasty habits which made all of his newsgroup posts seem very rude. I don't think he intended to be rude, but he was nonetheless.
So, here are the guidelines I gave him:
1. Do not tell Mormons what they believe-- you'll probably be wrong.
2. Do not say "The Bible says this" when it doesn't, or when it is ambiguous.
3. Do not say "The Bible definitively says this" when perhaps that part of the Bible does, but other passages in the Bible contradict it.
4. Be civil! (This of course applies to LDS as well as non-LDS people)
