I dated a non-member as a teenager. I don't think there is any specific counsel in this regard, (I may be wrong) except to date people with similar moral standards as yourself. I would say that since LDS members are strongly encouraged to marry within the faith, that *serious* dating of non-members, aka courtship, is discouraged.
