What do LDS scriptures teach about Christ's role in our salvation?
Sometimes people claim the LDS church teaches we "earn" our salvation through our works, and that Christ's sacrifice has nothing to do with it. This is just, plain wrong.
Here are some LDS-specific (i.e. not in the Bible) scriptural references on the necessity of Christ in our salvation: (of course, there's also plenty of additional references in the Bible)
3rd Article of Faith
"We believe that through the Atonement of Christ, all mankind may be saved, by obedience to the laws and ordinances of the Gospel."
2 Nephi 2:6
"Wherefore redemption cometh in and through the Holy Messiah; for he is full of grace and truth."
2 Nephi 10:24
"... it is only in and through the grace of God that ye are saved."
2 Nephi 25:23
"For we labor diligently to write, to persuade our children, and also our brethren, to believe in Christ, and to be reconciled to God; for we know that it is by grace that we are saved, after all we can do."
Alma 12:34
"Therefore, whosoever repenteth, and hardeneth not his heart, he shall have claim on mercy through mine Only Begotten Son, unto a remission of his sins; and these shall enter into my rest."
Moroni 10:32-33
"Yea, come unto Christ, and be perfected in him, and deny yourselves of all ungodliness; and if ye shall deny yourselves of all ungodliness, and love God with all your might, mind, and strength, then is his grace sufficient for you, that by his grace ye may be perfect in Christ..."
D&C 76:50-51, 55, 69
"... this is the testimony of the gospel of Christ concerning them who shall come forth in the resurrection of the just [i.e., inheritors of the highest kingdom of glory-- see verse 70]
"They are they who received the testimony of Jesus, and believed on his name and were baptized after the manner of his burial, being buried in the water in his name, and this according to the commandment which he has given"
"They are they into whose hands the Father has given all things--"
"These are they who are just men made perfect through Jesus the mediator of the new covenant, who wrought out this perfect atonement through the shedding of his own blood."
That's not to say that Mormons don't teach obedience to commandments is necessary-- we do. But we certainly also believe that it is Christ's sacrifice that purchased salvation in the highest kingdom for us.
