Does it really matter what we believe?
Yes, and no.
I believe that God will judge us on what we've done, and what sort of person we have become while on the Earth. Plus, the church doctrine is that people who do not accept Christ in this life may get a chance in the hereafter. That's why I tend to be non-judgmental regarding people of other faiths.
So, in a sense it doesn't really matter what we believe-- salvation does not only comes to those with "proper"-- that is, as taught by the Mormon church (in my opinion)-- gospel knowledge.
However, I believe that faith is enhanced when proper doctrines are understood, and that people's lives are enriched. For example, one doctrine taught by the LDS church, which is not commonly taught by most other Christian religions, is that of a premortal existence. That is, we existed (as spirits) before being born on the earth. I find that doctrine to inspire me, that my birth was not an accident, but part of a plan in which all other people on the Earth also participate. So, in that sense, it does matter what we believe, and I sincerely think my life has been enriched by the doctrines taught in the LDS church.
