Choral Music

Music from the La Crosse Chamber Chorale and the Utah Baroque Ensemble

Since 2003 I have been a singer in two fairly comparable high quality choral ensembles. From 2008 - current I have been a singer in the Utah Baroque Ensemble, directed by Martha Sargent. From 2003 - 2007 I was a singer (bass) in the La Crosse Chamber Chorale, directed by Paul Rusterholz. I was also on its board of directors for two years. Both groups are auditioned ensembles with about 35 singers, both sing a mixture of classical and contemporary pieces, a mixture of a cappella and accompanied works, and in a variety of languages.

I've decided to put some favorite songs of mine from those two groups here on my web page. The songs below are only a subset of what the two groups sing, because I had to restrict my choices to ones whose compositions are no longer copyrighted or whose composer I knew (the recordings themselves are still copyrighted by the La Crosse Chamber Chorale and the Utah Baroque Ensemble; I received permission from both groups to post them here). That means that most of these pieces were composed prior to 1923. Both groups also perform many more modern compositions--spirituals, modern classical-style music, traditional Christmas music, etc.

To play the music on many internet browsers, simply click on the title of the piece. If that doesn't work, right-click and select "Save Target As"; then double-click the saved file. The music is provided in mp3 format; each piece is typically several megabytes in size.

To find out more about the composer, click on the composer's name. The pieces are sorted in reverse chronological order by when we performed them. For the LCC concerts, the title of the concert is also given; for the UBE concerts, the location is given.

These "Words to Music" pieces were compositions by local composers set to poems written by local 4th - 8th grade students, written specifically for the Chamber Chorale.
