A Few Curious
Atmospheric Numerical Facts and Implications
- The number of molecules in one breath of
air is ~ 1022.
- The number of molecules in the earth's
atmosphere is ~ 1044.
- An average person draws ~ 2 ´ 108
breaths during a lifetime.
Therefore:
- The number of breaths of air in the
earth's atmosphere is 1044/1022 ~ 1022 ~ the
number of molecules in one breath.
- If you were to exhale, thoroughly stir
the atmosphere of the entire earth, then inhale, you would get, for an average
breath, about one of the molecules you had exhaled in any previous breath.
- Each breath you take contains roughly
one molecule from each exhalation of every person that has ever lived on the
earth (prior to the passing of a thorough mixing time, about ten years) .
- Each breath you take contains about 2´108
molecules that were once breathed by Moses, Isaac Newton, Joseph Smith,
Brigham Young, Shakespeare, Beethoven, Adolph Hitler, or any other name you choose to insert.
- The atmosphere is very much a shared
resource!
