(1) Welcome to Physics
137. Have a great semester!
(August 23, 2008)
(2) Earn extra-credit points by identifying your
instructor's mistakes. If you encounter an error in the course outline or any
of the other course
materials posted on-line, be the
first to notify your instructor and earn one point of extra credit (the same as
the credit value of a correct quiz
response) for each mistake you find.

(4) Three years ago a
Ph 137 student with a desire to become a TV weatherman sought some career advice
from me. As I am not a meteorologist,
I contacted Mark Eubank of KSL-TV who was
the senior Channel 5 weatherman at that time (he is the father of current
Channel 5 weatherman
Kevin Eubank) for his advice. Some of
you may be interested in his
response. (September 4,

(5) For this week only the help sessions will be held in 4360 HBLL.
(September 8, 2008)
(6) If you are unable to submit a CID# via the link posted on the course
outline, please email your
CID#
to
cgchristensen@byu.edu.
Thank you.

(7) Carlene is required to attend a Woman's Chorus Retreat next
Tuesday evening, so there will be no homework help session. This should be
the
only time this semester that
she will be unable to conduct the Tuesday evening session.
(September 12, 2008)
(8) Please note that the submission deadline for homework assignment #2
has been changed to Friday, September 19.

(14) Exam #1, question #23
printed incorrectly and was unintelligible. Those 11 of you who were lucky
enough to answer "c" matched the key and
scored 2 points. All others
have had 2
additional points added to their scores.
Click here to see a correct
version of question #23. (October 3, 2008)
(15) Some
of you commented that your Test #1 scores had been adversely affected by the
"°P" characters that appeared in
place of "°F"on
question #25. For that reason I
am giving you all two points for that question. If your answer was "(c)"
you already received two points and
no adjustment has been made to your
score. Otherwise I have added two additional points.
(October 6, 2008)
(16) I
have noted in that past that some, mostly non-local, students have been confused
when we have discussed local weather because it is often
convenient to describe it in the
context of local topographical features. To avoid such confusion this term
I have here
posted a local
topographical map on which are
identified those features most likely to be mentioned in class. Please
study this map until you are familiar with
its named locations and features.

Earn two bonus homework points by submitting a
"Foggiest Part" (of today's lecture) item. You may either name a foggy concept
or simply
ask a related question or questions. (October
6, 2008)
(18) Homework
Assignment #5 needn't be submitted until Wednesday, October 8.
(October 6, 2008)
(19) I failed to clearly state that the
"fog" option for seeking clarification and picking up a few extra points would
be available on all lectures for the
remainder of the semester.

Does anyone remember last
year's Eastern Washington football game? Does it
portend
the weather for
this coming Saturday's New Mexico
game?
(October 8, 2008)
(21)
During this week's help sessions Carlene will be conducting reviews for
Unit Test #2. Please take advantage of this opportunity to prepare
yourself well!
(October 13, 2008)
(22)
There are a few very simple calculations on Test #2. A
calculator is not necessary, but you will be allowed to use a calculator or
a graphing
calculator if you do take one to the
testing center.
(October 15, 2008)
(23) Remember, unless you take the test on
Thursday or Friday, the Testing Center will assess a $5 late fee.

reserved the room 4360 HBLL at 11:00 am tomorrow.
(November 7, 2008)
(29) Today someone, without identifying
himself or herself, submitted the "Fog" question, "What happens to the 'cut-off
low' after it has separated
from the major circulation?" If
you will identify yourself, I will give you your extra credit points.
(November 7, 2008)
(30) Test#3
scores have been posted to the grade spreadsheet. There was one incorrect
answer on the key. Your scores have been corrected for
this miscue and for the extra-credit
question.
(November 17, 2008)
(31) Your
spreadsheet scores have been corrected for the error in the test #2 key.
The question that was miskeyed was #14. The correct answer
was "a", not "f " as
indicated on the original key. Sixteen of you have had your scores
increased by 2 points. Five of you have had your
scores reduced by 2 points.
