note the following:
(1) The exact
relationship between distance modulus and distance in parsecs is
m - M = 5 log d - 5 or
d = 10(5+m-M)/5.
(2) A star with a
distance modulus of 0.00 is exactly 10 parsecs distant.
(3) The relationship in
(1) above assumes there is no obscuration of a star's light.
(4) Obscuration increases
m - M,
making a star appear farther away than it really is.
