  Please note the following:
          (1) The exact relationship between distance modulus and distance in parsecs is

                                                     m - M = 5 log d - 5    or    d = 10(5+m-M)/5.

          (2) A star with a distance modulus of 0.00 is exactly 10 parsecs distant.
          (3) The relationship in (1) above assumes there is no obscuration of a star's light.
          (4) Obscuration increases
m - M, making a star appear farther away than it really is.
