Dec 18, 2010: Congratulations on a great semester. All scores should have been posted by now -- let me know if you find any discrepancies. I have processed all exam appeals, except for one Exam 2 appeal that I recorded under invalid CID 055. I added one extra-credit point to your final exam score (as promised) if you submitted student ratings. I have corrected all of the minor course-packet errors (only in my originals) that you informed me of, as listed on the Errata page, and processed any associated extra credit. Your final grades, as they appear online, should be correct with one exception -- if your final exam grade is higher than your overall course grade, I'll submit the final exam grade instead.
Dec 6, 2010: The best study resources for the final exam are the five midterms (the exams themselves, their solution keys, the review notes that I post online for each exam, and the associated sample exams) and also the sample final exam. If you haven’t collected your midterms from the homework-return bins this semester, I strongly suggest that you do so now. If you haven’t yet obtained copies of the midterm-exam solutions, you should come to class on Wednesday to pick them up.
Dec 6, 2010: I will give one extra-credit point on the final exam to each student who submits course/instructor ratings on RouteY before the end of the semester (must be done before the final exam period begins)! Please be constructive with your criticism -- we really do act on it to the extent possible. Among other things, I am hoping for insightful ideas about how to improve the walk-in labs.
Dec 6, 2010: Thank you for taking the time to rate your TAs (http://gardner.byu.edu/tas/tutorrating.html) and for submitting anonymous feedback (http://gardner.byu.edu/tas/feedback_tutorial_lab.html) throughout the semester. The feedback is used to improve the function of the labs, and the ratings are used to provide awards for our best TAs.
Dec 6, 2010: As of this morning, OIT has a wireless hot spot set up for our tutorial labs. I realize that this is late in coming. But please help us out by testing the new capabilities. We would like to know what happens when more than 30 students try to use the wireless at the same time.
Dec 6, 2010: I have been getting a lot of questions about grading policies, many of which are covered in the syllabus. It might be a good time to review the syllabus. The grading system automatically selects four quiz scores and raises them to full credit in such a way as to maximize the benefit. It also selects four homework assignments that have late points and waives the late penalty. Note that late penalties cannot be waived for work that was never submitted. These features appear to be working correctly.
Dec 6, 2010: For those interested in working as Physics TAs or graders next semester, please visit http://www.physics.byu.edu/Undergraduate/StudentEmployment.aspx for detailed information about the positions available and their qualifications. Hiring will begin next Monday (Dec. 13th).
Dec 1, 2010: Our lab graders have asked that you submit any lab-grade appeals (lower-most box of the homework-submission boxes) on or before the last day of classes. Beyond that date, it is unlikely that the appeals box will be checked again.
