ISOTROPY Software Suite Tutorials

Branton J. Campbell and Harold T. Stokes
Dept. of Physics and Astronomy, Brigham Young University, USA

Download and unzip the tutorial files and instructions. Ideally, you should work through the "Installation and Preparation" section of the tutorial instructions before coming.

Download and install the ISOVIZ software, either from the ISOVIZ website or from this zip file. This workshop will focus on the incommensurate-structure exercises (5, 6, 7), which are somewhat advanced. Those who are unfamiliar with the ISODISTORT may wish to complete exercises 1 and 4 prior to the hands-on tutorial session.

Ascii-text editor

You'll need an ascii-text editor (not a word processor) for almost every tutorial. We recommend Notepad++ (but not Notepad or Wordpad) for Windows, or the built-in TextEdit for Mac with plain-text set as the default preference (Preferences -> New Document -> Format -> Plain text). If you already have a favorite ascii-text editor, you can use it.
