| Homework
is due every week, usually on class day at
midnight. Details of each assignment are included in the Assignments
section of the web page. Paper assignments should be
placed in the homework box in the distribution center across from N373
ESC. Homework will be returned via your
CID number in the latttice of boxes across from room
N375 or
otherwise in class. Each problem will be assigned an appropriate number of points. When your grade is computed at the end of the semester, one average homework score (i.e. total homework points for the semester divided by number of assignments) will be given to you to compensate for circumstances outside your control that prevented you turning in all or part of an assignment. Homework later than 24 hrs will be accepted only if the student can convince me or the grader that extraordinary circumstances have prevented them from turning in homework that is not compensated by the above rule. The burden of proof will be somewhat less if I have notice prior to the due date by email, telephone message (Adam: 704-575-4857 or Allred: 422-3489/ 400-8277) or personal contact. Anything you hand in must be your own work and fully understood. Homework must be legible, and all steps must be clear. If the grader has difficulty following your work, you will lose points -- even if you get the correct answer! Usually homework should be done symbolically as far as possible. When numerical results are required, wait to put numbers into the equations until the end. Unless otherwise noted, numerical answers should be given in standard metric units to three significant digits.

| The assigned problems for each week will be listed in the Assignments section of the course web page. I encourage you to collaborate with other students on your assignments. Anything you hand in must nevertheless be your work and understood by you. | |
