Expectations
We Are In This Together

In this same vein, I encourage you strongly to collaborate with your fellow students on homework, exam preparation, study, etc. Discuss thin films.  Be a contributor as well as a listener.  Read the assignment early, think about it, and try it independently. Later, compare and discuss, come to a conclusion together, and broaden your perspective from all these diverse contributions. If you can't come to agreement, present both sides of the debate, being sure to give proper credit. Look at the collaboration as a way to both teach and learn; the two activities cannot be separated from each other. I look forward to learning and teaching with you.  Hopefully, together, we can teach Ohring a few things too!

On My Honor...
Physics is nothing, if not a careful search for truth within the limits set by our assumptions and methods. As a member of our scientific and university community, I ask you to join me in a commitment to integrity in our university behavior. To me this means
bullet living by BYU standards of behavior, dress, and grooming;
bullet treating each other with respect and courtesy;
bullet not representing others' work as your own; and
bullet being the same inside and outside (for instance, not pretending we know or understand something when we don't).
If I feel you are not living up to this commitment, I will talk to you privately about resolving the problem. Please do the same for me.

BYU encourages teachers to include the following statements in all course outlines. I am committed to the principles on which these policies are based.

Preventing Sexual Harassment
BYU's policy against sexual harassment extends not only to employees of the university but to students as well. If you encounter sexual harassment, gender based discrimination, or other inappropriate behavior, please talk to your professor or department chair, or contact the BYU Equal Employment Opportunity Office at 422-5895, or the Honor Code Office at 422-2847.

Students With Disabilities
BYU is committed to providing reasonable accommodation to qualified persons with disabilities. If you have any disability that may adversely affect your success in this course, please contact the University Accessibility Center at 422-2767. Services deemed appropriate will be coordinated with the student and instructor by that office.
