Remote P-Drive Access for Linux

The following instructions are for Konqueror version 3.4.0 and for Nautilus version 2.8.2. Other versions will most likely look slightly different, but the ideas are the same.

In the following example, the word darl is used in place for where someone using the instructions would put their physics username.

Secure WebDAV: Konqueror (KDE)

  • Open up the Konqueror web browser.

  • In the Location box, type: webdavs://pdrive.byu.edu/darl, where darl is replaced with a physics username.
  • Press Enter on the keyboard.

  • An Authorization Dialog box will appear.
  • Enter a physics account username in the Username field.
  • Enter the associated password for the username in the Password field.
  • It's recommend to use the Keep Password option.

  • The user now has access to their P-Drive files.

Secure WebDAV: Nautilus (Gnome)

  • Open up the Nautilus file browser.

  • From the File menu, select Connect to Server....

  • An Connect to Server box will appear.

  • Click the Service type dropdown box and select Secure WebDAV (HTTPS).

  • Enter pdrive.byu.edu in the Server field.
  • Enter a physics account username in the Folder field.
  • Enter the same physics account username in the User Name field.
  • Type a name to associate with the connection (i.e. P-Drive) in the Name to use for connection field.

  • An Authentication Required box will appear.
  • Enter the associated password for the username in the Password field.

  • The user now has access to their P-Drive files.

FTP Client

FTP access to the Physics and Astronomy P-Drive is now disabled. Access can be gained using secure WebDAV as explained above.
