Printers

These instructions are for the latest version of macOS, High Sierra (10.13). They should not be different in basic instructions for older operating systems. If you have any questions feel free to put in a trouble ticket HERE

Multi-Function Printers

These are printers that can print high volume jobs for much cheaper than the other printers in the department. It is preferred that these printers are used for any and all large print jobs.

N284 Sharp MX 7580 Back To Top

This printer is going to require a user code which can be attained through Shelena Shamo for faculty and staff members. With this user code you will need to go into Job Handling > Authentication and enter your user code as the authentication

  1. Go to System Preferences
  2. Navigate to Printers and Scanners
  3. Click + Button to add a new printer
  4. Select Advanced in the toolbar
    • If Advanced not present, control and right click the toolbar and choose Customize Toolbar
    • Drage Advanced onto toolbar and select it
  5. Select: LPD (Line Printer Daemon)
  6. Enter the following information:
    • URL: lpd://esc-print01.byu.edu/ESCN284_MX-7580N
    • Location: N284 ESC
    • Name: Whatever you would like
    • Select driver corresponding with model 7850
  7. Click Add
  8. Configure the following settings:
    • Input Tray: MX-LC12
    • Bypass Tray
    • Saddle Stitch Finisher
    • 3 Holes
  9. You're ready to print! (Don't forget to enter your user code for each application)

N284 Sharp MX 4141 Back To Top

This printer is going to require a user code which can be attained through Shelena Shamo for faculty and staff members. With this user code you will need to go into Job Handling > Authentication and enter your user code as the authentication

  2. Navigate to Printers and Scanners
  3. Click + Button to add a new printer
  4. Select Advanced in the toolbar

  5. Select: LPD (Line Printer Daemon)
  6. Enter the following information:
    • URL: lpd://esc-print01.byu.edu/ESCN284_MX-4141N
    • Location: N284 ESC
    • Name: Whatever you would like
    • Select driver corresponding with model 4141
  7. Click Add
  8. Configure the following settings:
    • Large Capacity Desk
    • Saddle Stitch Finisher
  9. You're ready to print! (Don't forget to enter your user code for each application)

This printer does not require a user code. Because of this, this printer will be the main option for Graduate students who need to print. Faculty are also welcome to use it if they'd like.

  1. Go to System Preferences
  2. Navigate to Printers and Scanners
  3. Click + Button to add a new printer
  4. Choose the option to add by IP
  5. You will be adding the printer using its host name. The host name is: ESCN284_CP5525.byu.edu
  6. Enter this host name into the Address field
  7. Click Add
  8. Configure the following settings:
    • Printer Disk
    • Duplex Unit
    • Tray 3
    • Tray 4
    • Tray 5
    • Tray 6
  9. You're ready to print. Feel free to rename the printer to a name that is easiest for you

This printer does not require a user code.

  1. Go to System Preferences
  2. Navigate to Printers and Scanners
  3. Click + Button to add a new printer
  4. Select Advanced in the toolbar

  5. Select: LPD (Line Printer Daemon)
  6. Enter the following information:
    • URL: lpd://esc-print01.byu.edu/ESCN485_C5503
    • Location: N284 ESC
    • Name: Whatever you would like
    • Select driver corresponding with model 4141
  7. Click Add
  8. Configure the following settings:
    • Tray 3
    • Large Capacity Tray Installed
    • Internal Tray 2 Installed
    • Finisher SR3140
  9. You're ready to print!
