The BYU Astronomical Society

The Brigham Young University Astronomical Society is a student-run organization under the direction of the Department of Physics and Astronomy.

We present weekly public planetarium shows in the Royden G. Derrick Planetarium located in the Eyring Science Center. In addition to weekly shows we host monthly star parties in the mountains east of Provo and other outreach and educational activities.

Membership in the society is open to anyone with an interest in astronomy, stargazing, planetariums, telescopes, or staying up late. For membership information, see our membership page.

As part of the International Year of Astronomy, the BYU Astronomical Society is planning a number of special events, exibits, shows, and presentations. For information on upcoming public events, see our IYA page.

 

Society activities:

  • Weekly public planetarium shows (every Friday at 7 and 8pm)
  • Weekly public night sky observation (following planetarium shows)
  • Monthly meeting (first Friday)
  • Monthly star parties at a dark sky site (Friday closest to new moon)
  • Monthly misc. awesome activity

Planetarium Shows

Weekly planetarium shows are held most Friday nights at 7:00 PM and 8:00 PM.  Tickets are $2 at the door, and go on sale at 6:30 PM.  After the shows, the observation deck on the roof will be open, weather permitting, with telescopes setup for the public to look through. Click here for information on this week's planetarium show.
