Atomic, Molecular, Optical

Atomic, molecular, and optical physics (often abreviated as AMO physics) is the study of light, light-matter interactions, and matter-matter interactions on the scale of a few atoms or molecules. These three areas are grouped together because they often employ similar experimental and theoretical methods. Although nuclear physics is typically a separate field from AMO, in our department we include a small nuclear physics research program (led by Larry Rees) in this group for historical reasons.
