Installing Printers for Macintosh

The following instructions are for Mac OS versions 10.4 and 10.5. Screen shots for Mac OS 10.4 (Tiger) are listed first and screen shots for Mac OS 10.5 (Leopard) follow. Instructions for other OS versions may vary.

Printer Setup

  • Open up System Preferences. Select Print & Fax.
   



  • Click on the "+" button to add a printer.

  

 


  • Open an internet browser and go to "lpr.byu.edu/printers" (NO "WWW.").
  • Click on the desired printer on the left (in this example we will setup the printer in N362 ESC).



  • Now click on Properties on the left of the page.



  • Copy down the last half of the Network Name beginning with "printers/" (in this case it is "printers/n362escd/.printer").

 

  • Go back to the Printer Browser.
  • Select the IP printing tab at the top of the window
  • Choose "Internet Printing Protocol - IPP" from the Protocol: drop down.
  • In the Address: box type "lpr.byu.edu:80".
  • In the Queue: box type the end of the Network name that was retrieved in the previous step.
  • Type in the name of the printer in the Name: box.
  • Choose "Generic PostScript Printer" from the Print Using: drop down.
  • Click "Add"

   


  • The printer should be added to the printer list and is now ready to be printed to.
