Secure WebDAV with NetDrive

The following instructions are for Windows XP with Service Pack 2. Success may vary for other Windows operating systems.

In the following example, the word user is used in place for where someone using the instructions would put their username.

  • Download Novell's NetDrive client. The file is approximately 5MB in size.
  • Install the program accepting all the default options. You may be prompted to restart your computer after the installation is complete. If you are, do so.
  • Once finished, there will be a new folder in your Start Menu named NetDrive. Go to this folder and run the NetDrive program located inside.

  • Click New Site and fill in the fields as shown below, remembering to replace user with your Physics username.

  • A new site will be added to NetDrive's main window. Make sure your settings are like those that appear below. You can change the drive letter if you want to use something other than P: but we reccommend using a letter towards the end of the alphabet.

  • Click Connect to connect now or Exit to close the NetDrive configuration window. You can connect later by using the program in the Start Menu, or the icon in the system tray as shown below.

  • Once you've closed any files you had open, you can disconnect your P-Drive by using the NetDrive tray menu.

While your P-Drive is connected with NetDrive, you can open and edit any files just like you would when you are on a Physics lab machine; however, remember that this is going over your Internet connection which means you will have to wait longer for files to open and save.
