If a student is a Physics and / or Astronomy major or minor, or is working with a Physics and Astronomy Department professor and has their permission, the student may have an account to access student computers in N212 and N333. This can be done by filling out a new computer account form.
Forms are available:
Please fill out the form completely and return it to either N362 ESC or N283 ESC.
Students will need to provide their name, Route Y ID, and if not a Physics and / or Astronomy major / minor, justification for needing an account (i.e. working for a Physics and Astronomy professor).
Students can login to computers in N212 ESC and N337 ESC. The doorcodes for these room can be obtained from Diann Sorensen in N281 ESC. Students are given space on the network (U-Drive) which can be accessed from any computer in the labs. It is strongly suggested that students save important files to their U-Drive, an online account (such as the university drive), or some type of removable media (CD or USB), as the local drives are formatted often.
Student computer accounts expire once a year a few weeks after the start of Fall semester. You are required to renew your account to continue using Department computer resources. You can renew your account online or by filling out another Computer Account Agreement (see above).
To renew your account online, visit the Student Registration site. You will be need to log in with your Route Y NetID and password. Once logged in you will be able to make changes to your account.
If you have trouble logging in or renewing your account, please contact the CSR office.
Many research groups have computers systems separate from the general Physics and Astronomy system. Accounts for those systems can be obtained with permission from the group leaders. Contact the specific research group leader for instructions on how to obtain these types of accounts.
