We invite all BYU Physics and Astronomy alumni to join us for a special Physics and Astronomy homecoming reunion on Friday October 10, 2008. Mark you calendars now and contact the department by Monday Septermber 29 to let us know which events you will be attending.
The schedule of events is below. All events except BYU's Homecoming Spectacular are free of charge and open to all of our alumni and family/friends as well as our current students and their families.
Enjoy a buffet dinner while you chat with old friends and get to know
the current faculty and students. This dinner is free of charge and open to
all, but we would appreciate knowing if you are coming so that we can make a
better guess as to how much food we will need.
During this reception you can
browse through poster presentations given by our students which show off the
great research they are doing. If you like, you make take a look at some
pictures from the reception we held in 2007, 2006,
2005,
2004, or
2003.
Our underground lab was completely
renovated this last year. If you haven't been down there in the last
couple of months, you won't recognize it. The lab has been divided into
several state-of-the-art research areas, with everything a physicist could
need. Student study areas have also been added, and the whole look and
feel of the lab has been upgraded.
The department's astronomical society will put on a special planetarium
show for Physics and Astronomy alumni and family/friends. Our new
planetarium is top notch and our student presenters are really sharp, so
expect a great show. This show is free of charge, but we would like you
to let us know if you plan to attend so that we have an idea of what size of
group to expect.
Wayne, Peterson, our in-house physics demo expert, puts on a fantastic show. His
entertaining and informative demonstrations have won national prizes, and his
shows captivate everyone from old to young. Prepare to be astonished!
This show is free of charge, but we would like you to let us know if you plan
to attend so that we have an idea of what size of group to expect.
This event has been very entertaining in the past, and we expect another good show this year. Past performers have include Men's Chorus, Women's Chorus, Living Legends, Vocal Point, the Young Ambassadors, the Philharmonic Orchestra, the Dancers' Company, Synthesis, and the Nauvoo Brass Band. The department will purchase block tickets for the Homecoming Spectacular. The seats are $20.00 per person (discounted to $18.00 for Physics and Astronomy alumni and their spouses). If you wish to attend with us, please contact us by Monday, September 29th to guarantee your reservation.
You may choose to participate in any or all of the successive events. We do hope that you can join us for a good time together. Spread the word and encourage fellow alumni to take advantage of this opportunity.
Contact the Department of Physics and Astronomy at (801) 422-4361 or email physalum@byu.edu to make reservations or if you have questions.
If you can't make it to homecoming this year, you can send a postcard to the address below. We'll post these on a board so that your fellow classmates can read where you are and what you are up to. See you in October!
